Christina Brister-Smith was born in Montana and spent time in Colorado before moving to Portland to attend art school. It was during her time in school that she fell in love with the Willamette Valley and now considers it home.

singed in September sun
she doesn't offer warmth
there is too much
atmosphere
between us

I will climb
up past the tips of buildings
up past cirrus clouds
I will climb
into those gauzy skies,

where she can:
touch my bones to charcoal
wrap her flames beneath my skin

I will never
be cold
again

and the feathers float down to earth

filtered through ash
